PROTECT YOUR HOUSE FROM THIEVES!!
Did you know that there were two cases of burglary in Iruma last month: one in Ogimachiya and the other in Takakura? In the former case, the criminal even used a knife to threaten residents, and in both cases the criminals escaped. You should not take on blind faith anymore that Japan is a safe country! Here is advice by Saitama Prefectural Police Headquarter to protect your property and lives.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THIEVES AWAY
・Be sure to lock your house at all times! Thieves come in anytime. Lock your house even when you go out for a short time.
・Lock the windows on the 2nd floor. Thieves come in from anywhere.
・Put additional locks and anti-burglar film on the windows. Have lights with human-detecting sensors around the house. Those are available at affordable prices at any home center or on online stores.
“110” IS THE POLICE EMERGENCY NUMBER
In case you encounter a burglary, call “110” and give the following information:
・What (“nani”) happened (“Dorobo” is the word for “thief.”)
・Where (“doko”) it happened (Give your address)
・When (“itsu”) it happened (“Tatta ima” is for “just now.”)
・What the criminal (“hannin”) looked like (…this could be a bit difficult. Tell whether or not the criminal had a weapon.)
It is much easier to prevent than to respond to a case. Take effective measures and make a safe community together.

FURIGANA TO BE ADDED TO NAMES ON FAMILY REGISTER
The revised Family Register Act will come into effect on May 26, 2025, and “furigana” will be added to the names on family registers or “koseki.” After this date, all the Japanese nationals will receive a notice of the furigana to be added to their family register from the municipality of their permanent domicile. If the furigana noticed is correct, no report is required. If there is any error, please make a report within one year through MY-NA Portal or with the designated form at Iruma City Hall.
In the case of a foreign-national parent who is raising a Japanese-national child, the parent will receive the notice and may need to report for his/her child. If you are not sure, please contact the Information Desk for Foreign Residents at Iruma City Hall.
Note that there is no fee for this procedure, so beware of scams. There is no penalty even when you fail to report, but after one year, you will need permission from the court to change how to read your name.
