 Chinese Language Service Discontinued

For over 30 years, Iruma City's Information Desk for Foreign Residents has been a point of contact for everyday consultations for residents. Advisors are available in English every Tuesday (and by appointment, 2nd & 4th Friday) and in Spanish every Wednesdays, providing advice on issues such as taxes, residence status, and school education, as well as interpretation for legal advice.

However, as of this month, Chinese-language consultations, which had previously been available on the first Thursday of every month, have been discontinued due to low usage. For Chinese-language consultations, please use Saitama Information & Support (SIS) Tel:048-833-3296. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Immigration reviews now taking a longer time

Recently, Information Desk has received many inquiries from those worried about not receiving the results of their immigration application. Immigration officials said to us that the number of applications has increased sharply, which is why it is taking longer to process them.

Note that, as long as you have applied for an extension and have a stamp on the back of your zairyu card indicating that your application has been filed, you can stay in Japan for two months after the expiration date waiting for the results. This is called a special period of stay (tokurei kikan). So wait a bit more please.
